State Guides With Official Sources
Where state law sets the rules, these guides link to the statute or official form
Why LegalTemplateVault
A free template is only useful if you know when and how to use it.
State Rules, Explained
Where the law differs by state, our state guides for bills of sale, small estates, wills, deeds and LLCs explain the difference and link to the statute or official form behind it.
Editable Word + PDF
Most templates come as a print-ready PDF and an editable Word file that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.
Free, No Signup
Every core template downloads free, with no account and no email. A template page may also offer an optional paid extra, such as a bilingual version. The free template never depends on it.
Plain-English Guides
Template pages explain when to use the document and how to fill it in.

Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers about how this site works
Are the templates really free?
Yes. You can download every core template without an account or an email address, and edit it for your personal or internal business use. A page may also offer an optional paid extra; the free version is complete on its own.
Do these templates replace a lawyer?
No. LegalTemplateVault is not a law firm and nothing here is legal advice. The templates cover common, everyday situations. For a disputed custody case, a large transaction, or anything you are unsure about, talk to a licensed attorney in your state.
How do I know if my state needs a different version?
Start with the state guides above, including bill of sale rules for every state and DC. If your state isn’t covered yet, use the general template and compare it with your state’s official forms, which are usually on the website of the state agency, court or county office that handles that document.
Can I edit the Word file in Google Docs?
Yes. The .docx file opens in Google Docs, Microsoft Word and LibreOffice. Check the formatting after opening it, then save or print it as a PDF.
Do I need a notary?
It depends on the document and the state. Read the guide on the template page, and check with the office that will receive the document, such as the county recorder or register of deeds for a deed.

Templates and articles on this site are general legal information, not legal advice. For your specific situation, consult a licensed attorney in your state.
Last reviewed: October 1, 2026 | Editorial byline: Daniel Mercer. Methodology: each template is sourced from state statutes, court forms, and widely-used commercial contract models, then standardized into plain English and explained in a page-specific FAQ. Full details in our Editorial Policy.
